Includes Skating and Playground (1 Game of Laser Tag for 1st grade and older). Students bring their own lunch.

Includes Skating and Playground (1 Game of Laser Tag for 1st grade and older) and lunch at Sparkles (slice of cheese pizza and small soda).

$14.00/per student

Includes Skating and Playground (1 Game of Laser Tag for 1st grade and older) and lunch at Sparkles (2 slices of cheese pizza and small soda).

$17.00/per student

Includes Skating, Playground (1 Game of Laser Tag for 1st grade and older) and lunch at Sparkles (1-hour pizza and fountain drink buffet).

Student Numbers

  • Minimum of 50 students is required to book a field trip, but a Maximum of 200 students can be accommodated per day. 
  • If your group consists of more than 200 students, we ask that your group split into two days. This insures you and your students have the best experience with a good quality lesson and efficient skate/lunch rotation.

Time

  • Our field trips last 3 hours. This includes a 1 hour STEM lesson with experiments. Plus, a 2 hour rotation of lunch, skating, & playground or one game of laser tag.
  •  Field trips arrival time can be between 9:30am & 10:30am, with a departure between 12:30pm & 1:30pm

Lesson Standards

  • All of our lessons support the Georgia Standards of Excellence in science and/or the Next Generation Science Standards.
  • Each lesson is taught by our enthusiastic STEM Educator, and a helpful staff for your entire experience. 
  • Each lesson involves an introduction to STEM, instruction that correlates with the Georgia Performance Standards, and at least two hands on activities. Depending on the activity or lab, these could be whole group, small group, or in pairs. Please see grade level lesson descriptions for more details.

Lessons

THE SCIENCE OF ROLLER SKATING

Students will learn about the parts of a roller skate and how each part functions to make the skate. They will discuss how surfaces in the rink are made of different materials and how that affects the skate in motion. Students will have a chance to showcase their creativity and design a new feature for a skate.

Topics: Geometry, Friction, Reverse Engineering, Design, & Motion.

LIGHTS, SOUNDS, & SKATING

Students will learn that both sound and light can travel in waves. They will discover the different types of lights we use in the skating rink, and learn what makes sound in a skating rink.

Topics: Frequency, Waves, & Vibrations

FORCE & MOTION

Students will learn basic physics as they discuss the forces in play when they roller skate. They will see how gravity and friction impact a skater in motion.

ROCKS & ROLLER SKATING

Students will investigate roller rink materials and classify them based on hardness, color, and texture. They will apply skills that are used for rocks & minerals to make observations about the different parts of a skate.

Topics: Moh’s Hardness Scale, Luster, Rocks, Minerals, & Texture

MUSIC & LIGHTING

Students will learn about how light and sound travel. They will learn the exciting effects of light with the use of reflection and refraction. They will discuss the different speakers used in a skating rink, and how they work together to make music.

Topics: Refraction, Waves, Reflection, & Frequency

ARCADE & CIRCUITS

Students will learn about the science, math, and engineering of arcade games at the rink. They will measure their reaction time, calculate the probability of simple games and create an electric circuit.

Topic: Reaction Time, Probability, Engineering Through Game Design, & Electric Circuits

Science of Health, Fitness, & Skating

Students will learn about the functions of the cardiovascular system and about leading a healthy lifestyle. They will make predictions and then calculate their average heart rate through physical activity.

Topics: Cardiovascular System, Heart Health, Importance of Exercise

NEWTON ON ROLLER SKATES

Students will learn that each one of Newton’s Three Laws of Motion are present in the skating rink. The will experiment with force and mass and discuss the importance of physics and roller skating.

Teachers and parents can skate for FREE.

This program is available Monday – Friday from 9:30 am-12:30 pm, 10:00 am-1:00 pm, or 10:30 am-1:30 pm.
